Kong

How does it work?
Some dogs enjoy a Kong simply as a toy, but you'll get the best effect by filling it with food. You can really stuff anything into it (as long as your dog can tolerate it). Both of my dogs have sensitive stomachs, so I fill it with soaked dry food and sometimes a little wet food to get a stickier consistency. You can also press in a harder biscuit piece last as a stopper.
Keep in mind...
- Make sure to pique your dog's interest in the Kong by making it easy to eat from the first few times.
- Gradually, you can make it more challenging by how compactly you fill it and also by putting it in the freezer for 2-4 hours before giving it.
Good for....
- Preventing frustration, e.g., at training sessions, as the dog benefits from having something to do during breaks.
- Easier alone-at-home training*
- Giving it to help the dog wind down after a walk/training/play/outing.
- Giving it during car trips (not all dogs eat in the car or during travel, but it can be a good option for those who do).
- Cooling the dog down on hot days (if you freeze the contents).
(*NOTE! - The dog should never be left alone with a Kong or similar item until you have observed that the dog eats from it safely several times first - also keep in mind that if there are several dogs, there may be a risk of conflict)
